When we record a vocal ensemble, sometimes we are recording the sound of the room almost as much as the sound the the group. If you like the sound of a particular room, let us know. We'll help you decide if it will work well for a recording.
Usually, a space with minimal background noise and some natural reverberation works best. If you want a more polished sound, a larger room with acoustic treatment works well, too. Wherever you record, it's best to check for sources of noise you may not notice at first, like auto traffic and air conditioning systems.
It might seem backwards, but often MORE singers means FEWER microphones. Let us know how many singers are in your group and we will plan accordingly.
If you have soloists, we should plan for them, too! We can prepare "spot" microphones to catch soloists within your choir, or track solo overdubs after the choir has been recorded.
Vocal ensembles often have enthusiastic singers who are anxious to perform. But are they really ready? We recommend that you carefully rehearse every song you plan to record so there is more time for extra takes during the session. More takes equal more options for you when it comes to editing and mixing.
